FAQ

Why should I choose Bellflower Ink over other shops?

If you live between Los Angeles and Orange County and want a quality tattoo from a friendly artist then Bellflower Ink is your best option.  We create custom tattoos that make you look and feel great! Our Goal as a shop is to make your first experience feel like you are amongst friends. We understand how intimidating getting your first tattoo or even just getting a tattoo at a new shop can be and we want to make you feel as comfortable as possible. We are a family run tattoo shop and we literally can’t wait for you to be part of our family.

How do I schedule an appointment?

To book an appointment you have to stop by the shop to speak with an artist, discuss your ideas and leave a deposit.

How do I schedule a consultation?

To book a consultation you can either use our consultation booking app or send us a detailed email to bellflowerink@gmail.com

How do I care for my tattoo once I leave the shop?

Remove the bandage within 2 hours of the procedure, 5 days for Saniderm wrap. Use warm water and a mild antimicrobial or antibacterial soap to gently wash off any ointment, blood or plasma and thoroughly clean the area. Do not use a cloth or anything abrasive, massage gently with your hand, rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely. Follow with a very light application of aftercare ointment, ex: Lubriderm, Aveeno. Do not use Vaseline, Neosporin, or scented lotions under any circumstances. Avoid contact with dirty surfaces, do not immerse tattoos in any type of body of water, avoid direct sunlight as much as possible.

Does this look normal?

If you are concerned about how your tattoo is healing we suggest you stop by the shop so that we can assess the area immediately.

Am I allowed to bring friends with me?

We ask that you only bring one guest to your appointment.

How should I prepare for my tattoo session?

Make sure you are well rested, well hydrated, and have eaten prior to your appointment. Aside from that, take a shower, charge your phone or tablet up and if you plan on watching/ listening to anything on your phone please bring headphones. Oh, and leave your cheerleaders at home… Just kidding, we allow one cheerleader per person.

What should I wear to my appointment?

It’s more important to be comfortable than to be fashionable. Looser is better than tighter, and keep in mind you want to be able to cover up certain places that might show, depending on where you’re getting your tattoo. If you are worried about getting ink on it, we would suggest not wearing it.

How should I prepare for a larger piece?

First thing, Plan! Check out our work on IG, check out our artists’ individual pages. Then schedule a consultation. The best large pieces always BEGIN with a cohesive plan, not just bits and pieces loosely tied together. We can do a sleeve or back piece with existing work in place, but it will ALWAYS look better when you come in with a plan and allow the same artist to help bring that plan to fruition for you.

Important things to keep in mind before getting a tattoo

  • Take a shower
  • Don’t bring your kids. Not because we don’t like kids but because a tattoo shop is not a safe environment for kids. You must be over 18 to be present in the shop. We understand it is difficult to understand but it is for their own safety.
  • Bring all of the necessary documentation. Valid ID is always required.
  • Method of Payment
  • Eat before you come in, we don’t want you fainting. It has happened more than you think.
  • If you’re diabetic plan for a crash (and prepare yourself!) we do not provide food or drinks.
  • Your idea may not be able to be tattooed, sometimes it just will NOT tattoo well and we can’t stamp our name on something we aren’t proud of.

When should I not get tattooed?

You should not get tattooed when you are:

  • Drunk
  • High
  • Pregnant
  • Pre-Surgery
  • Post-Surgery
  • When you don’t know what you want
  • When you can’t afford it
  • When you’re sunburned
  • When you have your kids with you
  • If you don’t have an ID
  • Being pressured into it
  • If you are having any cold/ Flu like symptoms
  • If you are feeling under the weather

Will my tattoo hurt?

A tattoo is probably a 3/10.  The best comparison would be to getting scratched on a sunburn or to having someone draw on you with a ball-point pen on a sunburn. It doesn’t feel good, but it’s more of an intermittent irritation than a constant pain. Remember, a tattoo has more in common with an abrasion than it does with a hypodermic needle shot from the doctor. But really it all depends on your pain tolerance, some will say it doesn’t hurt at all.

How long will it take for my tattoo to heal?

The majority of your new tattoos healing process will be done within the first two weeks. However, the skin is still working to heal and rejuvenate and you need to plan on 4-6 weeks for your skin to be back to its previous state. So that means no direct sunlight or submerging of bodies of water for that entire time.

Why do tattoos start to itch?

As the skin rejuvenates itself, usually about a week after the tattoo was done, the itch sets in. This is 100% normal. Good moisturizers will help immensely with this but DO NOT SCRATCH IT!  If lotion isn’t helping, run it under cold water for a few moments and you should be itch free.

Why do you require deposits?

Often, we will have hours of work in drawing and preparing for a tattoo before you sit down in our chair. Deposits help to ensure you make it to your appointment and that we haven’t done hours of work for nothing.

What is your shop minimum?

Our shop minimum is $80. You might not realize it, but we go through nearly the same amount of very expensive supplies to do a tattoo the size of a quarter as we do for a tattoo the size of a softball. Everything has to be sterilized, before and after.

Can I tip?

Tipping is 100% optional. It’s never expected but always appreciated.

Should I walk in or schedule an appointment?

We always encourage people to book an appointment for tattoos of any size. First, this guarantees you will get in at a certain time without potentially waiting for hours. Second, it gives our artists the chance to draw your new tattoo so that it’s 100% unique to you. But we are always happy to help as a walk in if an artist has availability when you arrive.

What happens if I’m late to my appointment?

If you’re late to your appointment it will throw our schedule off for the day. Sometimes our artists are booked pretty tight and may not be able to take you at the time you arrive. If you are more than 30 minutes late we reserve the right to take a client who has walked in ready to be tattooed. Unfortunately, if you aren’t here and you haven’t communicated that you are running a bit late we could assume you aren’t showing up.

What happens if I no-show for my appointment?

If you no-show for your appointment you will unfortunately lose your deposit.
